‘Glassland’ to be released theatrically in USA September 24, 2015

US distributor Film Movement has acquired the rights to Irish film ‘Glassland’ with plans to distribute the film theatrically stateside next year.

Written and directed by Gerard Barrett (Pilgrim Hill), the riveting drama follows John, a young taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld, who, in a desperate bid to save his mother from a crippling alcohol addiction and reunite his broken family, is forced to take a job drives him further into Dublin’s dark underbelly…

Starring Jack Reynor (‘What Richard Did’) and Toni Colette (Little Miss Sunshine), the film had its international premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it was met with rave reviews. Colette’s performance was hailed as ‘blistering’ by the Hollywood Reporter, with Indiewire declaring the film to be “a directorial triumph” before labelling Reynor’s performance as “career-making”.

Jack Reynor won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival for his acclaimed performance. The film was released to cinemas in the UK and Ireland earlier this year – and received very positive reviews, with Indiewire labeling it a “directorial triumph”, The Irish Times calling it “superb” and The Guardian heralding it as “deeply moving”.

The film was nominated at this year’s IFTA Film & Drama Awards in the categories of Best Film, Best Director (Gerard Barrett), Best Script (also Gerard Barrett), Best Actor (Jack Reynor), Best Costume Design (Leonie Prendergast) and Best Cinematography (Piers McGrail).

Produced by Ed Guiney (‘Frank’, What Richard Did’, ‘The Guard’) and Juliette Bonass (‘Get Up and Go’) for Element Pictures, the film was Edited by Nathan Nugent here at Screen Scene last year.

Named Best Irish Film by the Dublin Film Critics’ Circle at the 2015 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) and joint winner of the 2014 Galway Film Fleadh Best Irish Feature award, full sound post on the film was carried out at Screen Scene and Ardmore sound, where Steve Fanagan and Niall Brady handled Sound Design and Ken Galvin supplied the mix.

Glassland is currently available to rent or buy on DVD here in Ireland.
