ROTHCO WIN BIG AT CANNES LIONS FOR THE INCREDIBLE ‘JFK UNSILENCED’ July 2, 2018

PRESIDENT JOHN F KENNEDY, EIRE, IRELAND - 1963

Massive congratulations to Dublin-based agency Rothco, who took home a whopping seven Cannes Lions awards last month for The Times incredible campaign ‘JFK Unsilenced’.

Sound Mixed by Will Farrell here at Screen Scene, the campaign uses voice recognition software to recreate the speech that President John F. Kennedy was due to deliver on the day of his assassination. The timely piece sees the deceased world leader warn about the dangers of “ignorance and misinformation” and how “those who confuse rhetoric with reality and the plausible with the possible, will gain the popular ascendancy with their seemingly swift and simple solutions to every world problem.”

Most timely, indeed.

Isolating sound fragments from Kennedy’s previous speeches, the project was undertaken in co-operation with Cereproc, a Scotland based speech synthesis company who analysed 831 of JFK’s previous speeches in order to create a workable database of more than 100,000 phonetic sound units.

Rothco took home the coveted Grand Prix in the Creative Data category and Gold in the Radio & Audio category (as well as Silver and Bronze) at Cannes Lions for the campaign.

JFK Unsilenced also nabbed the Silver and Bronze Lions in the digital category with another Silver awarded in the Digital Craft category for the spot.

Well done to all involved on the well deserved accolades and recognition!
