We’re happy as always to report that a selection of Screen Scene posted films will screen at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh (taking place 11th – 16th July).

The Farthest screens Friday 14th July in the Town Hall

Written and directed by Reynolds, ‘The Farthest’ chronicles the four-decade work of nuclear-powered probes Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, which have travelled over 22 million combined miles since leaving Earth to study the outer solar system.

Powerful, poetic and cinematic, THE FARTHEST celebrates these magnificent machines, the men and women who built them and the vision that propelled them further than anyone could ever have hoped.

Produced by John Murray and Clare Stronge for Crossing the Line Films, our very own Steve Fanagan was the re-recording mixer, sound designer and supervising sound editor for the film.

 

Maudie screens Thursday 13th Town Hall at 6pm

Directed by five time IFTA nominee Walsh, Academy Award nominees Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-LuckyBlue Jasmine) and Ethan Hawke star in this true story of Maud Lewis, who overcame the physical challenge of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis to become one of Canada’s premier folk artists.

Produced by Parallel Films, Screen Scene and Ardmore Sound also provided Foley and Final mix for Maudie.

 Limbo screens Saturday, July 15th, at 6pm in the Town Hall.

Written and directed by Gerard Barrett, who also co-produced with Grainne O’Sullivan. The film tells the intimate story of a mother and daughter in Ireland as they battle homelessness in emergency accommodation over 24 hours.

The Sound Mix for the film was provided by Screen Scene’s Ken Galvin.

 

Condemned to Remember will screen in the Town Hall Friday 14th at 4.15pm

Gripping feature doc ‘Condemned to Remember’ will get it first public screening as part of the Galway Film Fleadh.

The film follows Irish Holocaust Survivor Tomi Reichental as he embarks on an epic journey across a Europe in turmoil…

In Germany, Tomi concludes his long quest to bring the convicted SS War Criminal Hilde Michnia to account for her secrets and lies.

In Poland and Slovakia he confronts the “crisis of shame” that prevents an honest reckoning with the scale of local “collusion” with the Nazi extermination project.

In Bosnia, Tomi embraces Muslim survivors of a genocide, who still search for the bones of their loved ones.

Along the way, he puts himself into the shoes of the “new Jews” and discovers a strong common bond with refugees fleeing the hell that is Syria.

Following on from the award-winning ‘Close to Evil’, this is the third documentary to follow the remarkable Tomi Reichental, who is one again Produced and Directed by Gerry Gregg for Praxis Pictures.

The Drummer and the Keeper plays Friday the 14th, Town Hall Theatre at 6pm

 The Drummer and the Keeper, written and directed by Nick Kelly. is an uplifting comedic story of an unlikely friendship between Gabriel, a rock ‘n’ roll party animal with bipolar disorder and an institutionalised goalkeeper who suffers from Aspergers Syndrome.

The film stars Dermot Murphy,  Charlie Kelly, Adrian Hudson (Striking OutRebellion), Jacob McCarthy, Peter Coonan and Aoibhinn McGinnity.
