We’re over the moon to report that Screen Scene editor Nathan Nugent has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for his incredible work on Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’.

Room received nominations in the categories for Best First Screenplay (Emma Donoghue), Best Female Lead (Brie Larson), and Best Editing at the 2016 event, which will take place two days before the Academy Awards on February 26th in Santa Monica.

Starring Brie Larson, Joan Allen and William H. Macy, Room tells the harrowing story of a young woman (Larson) and her 5-year-old son, Jack (newcomer Jacob Tremblay) who have been locked in a 10-foot by 10-foot single room as prisoners for multiple years. The room is the only home Jack has ever known, but as his curiosity is building alongside his Mothers own desperation, she knows it cannot contain either indefinitely…

An Element Pictures and No Trace Camping production, produced by Ed Guiney and David Gross, the movie was was edited here at Screen Scene by the aforementioned Nathan Nugent, with full sound post taking place here and at Ardmore Sound. Screen Scene also provided all the films VFX.

Room made its world premiere earlier this year at the Telluride Film Festival to rave reviews (some of which can be read here), and is already the subject of much Oscar talk, having taken home the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at this years Toronto International Film festival and the Best Narrative Feature at the Aspen Filmfest in Colorado among others.

Huge congratulations to Nathan Nugent on the well deserved Independent Spirit nomination — fingers crossed there will be accolade laden glory for him and the other nominees come February 26th.
