As our inimitable band of hard working heroes coalesce in a flurry of toothy smiles and hardy back slapping as part of Screen Scenes ‘All Together Now’, the original No 30 tenants, the sound team, have not only been welcoming their new neighbours with well toned open arms, but have also been hard at work deepening their roots in the Outback and streamlining workflows with sister facility, Ardmore Sound.
The last 2 years have seen the sumptuous upgrading of the audio consoles in No 30’s three studios, mixing all manner of commercials, documentaries such as The Ashes of 911 and Waterways, various animation projects, and magazine shows from RTE’s Operation Transformation to TV3’s Take Me Out. Such is the demand on local and international productions, we’ve also built ourselves a dedicated ADR studio in the Outback. Which is nice.
The Centre Stage is Screen Scene’s premier mixing room, a 5.1 mixing environment built around 4 ProTools HD systems, Avid Media Composer Video Satellite and a Christie HD projector. This room is where the multi award winning TV shows Game of Thrones and Titanic “Blood & Steel” were mixed to perfection. Like the Dub Theatre in the main building, the room has been designed and equipped so that it is capable of delivering even the most complex surround mixes for both TV and cinema. Along with Dolby certification, these two rooms boast the most powerful Pro Tools TV and Film mixing infrastructure in Dublin. The Outback also has room for up to 6 sound cutting rooms including 2 Pro Tools HD 5.1 cutting rooms.
On the Main Stage in Ardmore Sound, we continue to mix using the Harrison console with further integration of Pro Tools HD systems, allowing even more flexibility between the various mix environments and sound cutting rooms; resulting in better workflows and more creativity in the mix. Ciaran Foy’s “Citadel”, Conor MacMahon’s “Stitches” and Lenny Abrahamson’s “What Richard Did” are some of the features that have recently completed mixing at Ardmore Sound.
So as Screen Scene changes for the better all across the board, the sound department continues to evolve as Ireland’s most complete sound facility, capable of handling all things audio from a simple VO record to the most complex, creative theatrical release.
