Jericho

July 28 2009

Jericho has just completed post production at Screen Scene. The short film was produced under the Irish Film Board Signatures scheme which each year funds up to six short films of 12 minutes or under with a maximum budget of €90,000.

Jericho is written and directed by Liam Gavin and produced by Rachel Lysaght for Underground films. The film was shot by DOP Ruairí O’Brien on the Red Camera and was edited by Anna Maria O’Flanagan. Jericho tells the story of recently widowed Franky Bannon. He’s suicidal and can’t cope until his imaginary childhood friends return to show him that the world is beautiful…

Jericho boasts impressive special effects from the crew at Shadow Creations in Dublin who built the imaginary friends in puppet form. At Screen Scene the gfx department then added life to these characters by creating blinks and glances. By cutting out the tracking markers placed on the eyes and replacing them with tracked pupils, the team were able to animate the pupils blinking and looking around in After Effects. The vfx team also did a lot of clean-up work removing the puppet rigs as well as creating CG rain. Colourist Angela Mclellan worked closely with Director Liam and DOP Ruairí throughout the grade. Audio post production also took place at Screen Scene with Sound Editor Fionn Higgins and Mixer Garret Farrell before Warren Dowling completed Online.
