Bulmers

December 07 2009

Ending the year with the same cast of characters as the Bulmers ‘Pearapist’ and ‘Cuts’ campaigns, the Christmas spot takes us back to that world where the workers are all vying to be the person chosen to switch on the Christmas lights. Poor old Tom, the Orchard boss is plagued with their efforts from personalised gifts to late night calls. We never do find out who he chooses though as one of the orchard’s apples does the honours.

The 60sec spot was shot again in Clonmel where producer Anne-Marie Curran tells us “they have lots of rain, no snow but the orchards and yards look fantastic.” The Russell Curran crew created their own snow though, with a little help from a snow machine and Screen Scene’s own weather generator Allen Sillery in Flame.  Allen also helped add a hint of Christmas to the rest of the spot “Over 80% of the shots had some FX work carried out on them”, explains Allen “The tree was dressed to a certain degree and then we had to enhance, light and shape it to look like our magical Bulmers tree. Snow was added into 50% of shots, along with some breath.” Both Allen and Editor Jake Walshe were on location for the shoot in Clonmel which helped with the tight turnaround explains Anne-Marie “Jake came to Clonmel and was able to show Damien a pretty good cut within 6 working hours of wrap. Its a great help for a director to have that kind of breathing space on a tight schedule. Wrap Friday in Clonmel. Show to client on Monday in Dublin.”
