The I-Stream Van at Heineken Green Spheres

December 21 2009

The I-Stream Van was on the road last week for Heineken’s Green Spheres event at The Academy in Dublin where White Lies (Fiction Records) took to the stage in front of a packed house. Working with Mary Mc Carthy and the Red Jam team, I-Stream-Man Declan Browne (with a little help from his shiny new van) successfully facilitated the live web streaming of the gig.

The five-camera crew on the night used a combination of Screen Scene’s Sony PDW F330s & F350s.  Each camera recorded to DVD and a vision mixed output of the five cameras went to DigiBeta in the van. Flash encoding guru for the event was Screen Scene’s Ger McCullagh.

Declan explained a few of the challenges faced on the night “As we were located on the opposite side of a public road behind the venue, the main challenges on the night were the usual things - cable runs, feeds in and out of the venue, safety.  We had to get the feed back to the van from the various camera positions; the handheld in the pit, another handheld onstage and then three fixed cameras in various positions around the balcony and dance floor.  The crew did the I-Stream Van proud on the night and worked brilliantly together.  The vibe throughout the day was light-hearted, happy and productive.  The van did what it set out to do i.e. stream the event live to the web and I couldn’t have asked for a better result. The bar has been set now for future outings. Unfortunately there was no Ice Cream available on the night as it was deemed too cold and we haven’t finished installing the rack mounted Ice Cream dispenser, but we are working on that.”

We look forward to updates from Declan on future I-Stream outings (and on the status of that Ice-Cream dispenser!)
