Game of Thrones – Series One – VFX Breakdowns

Season One of the worldwide phenomenon, GAME OF THRONES, completed full Picture and Sound Post Production here at Screen Scene.

Based on the popular book series “A Song of Ice and Fire,” by George R.R. Martin, the sensational  fantasy series captured the imaginations of audiences across the globe when it originally aired in 2011, and has gone on to become the most successful HBO series of all time.

Chronicling the epic struggle for power set in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom, the ensemble cast of series one featured Mark Addy, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Lena Headey, Kit Harington and Aidan Gillen.

Screen Scene produced 350 of the circa 688 effects shots across the first season of the spectacular fantasy series, providing quite a few of the most memorable sequences, including Bran’s climb, the sprawling Lannister encampment, Jamie’s eye stab and various bits of CGI-enhanced violence which will blow your mind when you see how they’re done in the breakdown video above.

A critical and commercial smash, Series One was nominated for a whopping 13 Emmys , including ‘Outstanding Drama series’, ‘Special Effects’ and ‘Sound Editing’.

Screen Scene’s Visual Effect Supervisor, Ed Bruce, received a well deserved Visual Effects Society (VES) for Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program for his exemplary work on the show.
