Punky

Both seasons of RTÉjr’s ground breaking Irish-made cartoon series, Punky, completed Post Production here at Screen Scene

Written and produced in Ireland, ‘Punky’ is the first ever animated TV series in the world in which the lead character has Down syndrome, with the character of Punky voiced by Aimee Richardson, who herself has Down syndrome.

Created by Lindsay Jane Sedgwick (David) and developed with and produced by Gerard O’Rourke (Ballybraddan) for Monster Animation & Design Limited, ‘Punky’ takes a fresh approach at illuminating one of the key concepts underlying children’s schedules today, the acceptance of diversity in society. Through their extensive research and development, the creator and writers have a produced a series of stories that are entirely true and engaging and full of elements that are very attractive to children. It was commissioned by RTÉ Young People’s programmes and was funded by RTÉ, the IFB, the BAI’s Sound & Vision Fund and Section 481.

The first series, shown on RTÉ Two in 2011, won audiences the world over with its fresh approach at illuminating one of the key concepts underlying children’s schedules today—the acceptance of diversity in society.
Screen Scene provided full Audio and Online post production for the series, which earned our very own Emma Butt a well deserved IFTA nomination for Best Sound (TV).
