The Guard

Written and directed by Michael McDonagh (Ned Kelly), ‘The Guard’ centres on Irish policeman Sgt Gerry Boyle, played by Emmy winner and IFTA winner Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm). Joining forces with Don Cheadle’s straitlaced FBI agent in a bid to take on an international drug-smuggling gang, Sgt Boyle finds himself involuntarily drawn in to action. Critically acclaimed hilarity ensues.

Produced by Chris Clark and Flora Fernandez Marengo for Reprisal Films and Ed Guiney (Garage) and Andrew Lowe (The Wind that Shakes the Barley) for Element Pictures, ‘The Guard’ completed full picture and sound post production with Screen Scene and Ardmore Sound with Gary Curran Grading, Warren Dowling DI Finishing and Niall Brady as Sound Designer.

Since its release in 2011, John Michael McDonagh’s debut has grossed over €4.13 million, surpassing ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ in the Irish box office to become the second most successful independent Irish film of all time.
