The Widower

ITV’s 2014 drama The Widower was the most watched programme in the 9pm slot on the night of its television premiere, with 5.5m viewers and a 24% audience share tuning in to see Episode One of the gripping three part series…

The Widower tells the true story of Malcolm Webster, who was convicted in 2011 of murdering his first wife, attempting to murder his second wife and attempting to bigamously marry another woman.

Starring Reece Shearsmith, Archie Panjabi, and John Hannah, each episode focused on Webster’s relationship with one of his victims…

According to The English Independent’s review, “Reece Shearsmith is in a league of his own. Webster’s crimes are chilling enough, but Shearsmith’s disarmingly mild-mannered performance revealed a further level of detestability. This actor doesn’t need to crawl around like Papa Lazarou to send shivers down your spine.”

Produced by ITV Studios, Octagon Films & NZ Films, The Widower was directed by Paul Whittington and executive produced by Jeff Pope, with full Picture and Sound Post Production taking place here at Screen Scene.
