‘Room’ wins peoples choice award at TIFF September 21, 2015

Lenny Abrahamson’s adaptation of Emma O’Donughue’s best selling book, Room, has won the won the top prize at the Toronto International Film Festival!

Room took home the much coveted Grolsch People’s Choice Award at this years festival, a gong which can often be seen as a predictor of Academy Award success (For the past seven years the winner of the award has been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar).

Speaking about the award win, Director Abrahamson said: “I am so honoured that Room has been chosen by the TIFF audience to win the Grolsch People’s choice award.

“The programme this year was full of extraordinary films, and for such a knowledgeable, film-loving audience to choose ours as their film of the festival is something of which I will always be hugely proud.

“It is a testament to the incredible talent and passion of all who made this film; cast and crew and those who backed us and had faith in us from the beginning.”

Massive congratulations to all involved on the well deserved award win! Surely the first of many for this fantastic film!

Adapted by Donoghue from her own book, the film stars Brie Larson, Joan Allen and William H. Macy and tells the harrowing story of a young woman (Larson) and her 5-year-old son, Jack (newcomer Jacob Tremblay), who live in confinement in a 10-foot by 10-foot single room. The room is the only home Jack has ever known, but as his curiosity is building alongside his Mothers own desperation, she knows it cannot contain either indefinitely…

Room premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this month to rave reviews, with critics and audiences heaping praise on the film and its stand out central performances.

An Element Pictures and No Trace Camping production, produced by Ed Guiney and David Gross, the movie was was edited here at Screen Scene by Nathan Nugent, with full sound post taking place here and at Ardmore Sound. Screen Scene also provided all the films VFX.

Room is set to go on limited cinema release October 16th.
