Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster) latest film, ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ has been selected to screen in competition at the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off today.

Directed by Lanthimos, who co-wrote the screenplay with regular collaborator Efthymis Filippou, the film stars Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, and follows a charismatic surgeon (played by Farrell), who is forced to make an unthinkable sacrifice after his life starts to fall apart and the behaviour of a teenage boy he has taken under his wing turns sinister.

Speaking on the film’s inclusion at this year’s Cannes lineup, Producer Ed Guiney (Element Pictures) said “We are thrilled to be back in Cannes with Yorgos and Colin following the success of THE LOBSTER two years ago. Yorgos is truly one of the most talented and visionary filmmakers working anywhere at the moment and Cannes is the perfect place to launch his new film to the world.”

Screen Scene were part of the VFX and Sound post team on ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’ and will work as part of the same team on Yorgos Lanthimos’s next movie, period drama ‘The Favourite’, which stars Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult and is currently shooting in the UK.

The 70th annual Cannes Film Festival takes place from 17th-28th May 2017. Further details on the festival can be found on the official website here.
