In the early 1990’s, naturalist, poet and broadcaster Dick Warner, made an epic journey by barge through the canals of Ireland in the international, multi-award winning documentary series ‘Waterways’. In 2011, after a sixteen year absence, Waterways returned to our screens for an exciting new 6-part series.

Shot in stunning High Definition, “Waterways – The Royal Canal” is a spectacular, cinematic experience, telling the enthralling and richly visual story of Dick Warner’s journey down the newly re-opened Royal Canal, with first-class production values and stunningly vivid HD cinematography of the spectacular canal vistas.

Tile Films re-assembled the core team from the original, including writer/presenter Dick Warner (Ironing the Land, Voyage, Spirit of Trees), Producer Larry Masterson (Dermot’s Secret Garden, The Late Late Show), DOP Peter Robertson (Garage, Zonad); and Composer – Ronan Hardiman.

‘Waterways’ completed full post production here at sunny Screen Scene, where the editing team of Derek Holland and Jim Dalton were aided and abetted by Screen Scene MD and Editor of some of the early series Jim Duggan, who returned to the cutting room to (slowly!) put some of the new series together. Angela Cerasi was Colorist, Oleg Jitov provided the Online, John O’Riordan supplied the graphics, while Ken Galvin and Mark Fitzpatrick were the Sound Mixers.

‘Waterways – The Royal Canal’ was produced by Tile Films Ltd in association with RTÉ, Broadcasting Authority of Ireland – Sound and Vision Broadcasting Funding Scheme and Section 481.
